In 2022, while working on a project that required frequent PDF manipulation, I became increasingly frustrated with the available options. Every tool seemed to have the same problems: expensive subscriptions, intrusive watermarks, or questionable privacy practices that required uploading sensitive documents to remote servers.

This frustration sparked an idea: What if I could build a tool that delivered desktop-level speed and security entirely within the browser, without ever uploading files? A tool that respected user privacy while being completely free to use.

Today, with 25+ PDF and image tools available for free, The PDF Buddy remains a solo project. This allows me to maintain a focused approach to the original mission of privacy and accessibility. Being a solo developer means we can move quickly, respond directly to user feedback, and stay focused on what matters most: delivering useful file tools without sacrificing security or adding unnecessary complexity.
